At ilumina Healing Sanctuary, I see patients with chronic urinary tract or vaginal infections and are caught in the cycle of antibiotic use without results. My favorite delicious, simple, and easy to make at home beverage can be a beneficial addition to your current therapy. Is it also useful for IBS, digestive disorders, constipation, bloating and gas as well as chronic yeast infections just to name a few.
Please remember the cycle of prolonged antibiotic use is complex and involves concocting an individualized treatment plan utilizing therapies such as acupuncture, Chinese herbs, vitamins, dietary and lifestyle recommendations. It is also beneficial to investigate into any emotional aspect of this imbalance. Since each person is different the right combination of cost effective treatment that breaks the cycle and restores health comes from looking into each individual case.
With that said there is a tasty drink that I often recommend as part of a larger treatment plan. So I would like to share it with you. From my experience this is not going to be enough on its own but you may want to include it in what you are already doing with your healthcare provider.
Start with keifer as your base. If you are unfamiliar with keifer you are in for a treat! Keifer is a naturally fermented probiotic drink that can be made from whole grains or cow, goat, or coconut milk. I use the Helios Nutrition plain organic keifer. There are a lot of other nice brands out there including Body Ecology which you can order through the mail. I just recommend organic and plain (no sugar added).
Then add Cranberry juice concentrate. I like R.W. Knudsen brand.
To sweeten add Stevia. If you do not know about Stevia you are in for another treat. Stevia is a naturally sweet herb that is native to Paraguay. The brand I use, SweetLeaf™, is the only 100%-natural, zero-calorie, zero-carbohydrate, zero-alcohol, zero-chemical, zero-glycemic index stevia according to their website. They are also from metro Phoenix, where I have lived almost my whole life, so I like that as well. But you are free to choose your own stevia. Please do not use other natural or artificial sweeteners for this drink.
Dana’s Favorite Probiotic Drink
4-6oz Keifer (cow, goat, coconut, whole grain- your choice just low sugar content)
1/2-1oz Cranberry Juice Concentrate (different from cranberry juice)
1 packet stevia
Mix and drink. Enjoy every morning. Yummy and beneficial!
